Dacia’s boot-iful Bank Holiday solution to the nation’s packing panic

As Brits gear up for their Bank Holiday getaways this coming weekend, new research by car brand Dacia reveals that it’s not so straightforward for everyone. Over a quarter (26%) of those aged 25-34 admit to the mere thought of packing a car has prevented them from setting off altogether.

Nearly one in five (18%) find car packing more stressful than the drive itself, with one in ten confessing to having to force the boot shut in their efforts to fit everything in.

To help the nation conquer its car-packing woes, Dacia has partnered with one of the UK’s leading professional organisers, Vicky Silverthorn, who has shared her top ten tips for optimising boot space.

Vicky has a strong track record of helping Brits, having worked with the likes of Jonathan Ross, Jamie Dornan and Lily Allen to name a few.

VICKY’S TOP TEN TIPS

  1. Be prepared: Create a ‘packing checklist’ of all the items you need. This helps ensure you do not forget anything, and can actually help you pack more strategically
  2. When in doubt, boot it out: Think about what you actually need to bring with you. If you have to think twice, you probably don’t need it!
  3. Wheely spacious: There’s probably more room in your car than you think! If you have space under the boot floor, use the spare wheel well for smaller items such as wellies
  4. Don’t stack, side pack: Pack suitcases sideways rather than stacking them. This way, you can easily slide out the ones you need without having to lift off any others
  5. Layer up: Pack heavier items on the bottom, working your way up in layers
  6. Don’t learn the hard way: Soft cases are great to fit around hard cases in the boot, optimising every inch of space
  7. Squeezy does it: Pack things tightly to avoid them sliding and moving around as you drive
  8. It’s child’s play: If you’re taking one, make sure your pushchair is easy to access if you need it on arrival
  9. Boot foresight: If you are arriving late at your destination, always pack the items that you will need when you get there at the top such as wash bags! (Didn’t you do well…)
  10. Only the essentials: Use an easily accessible rucksack or storage container to hold key items that you can grab quickly such as chargers and headphones

The study also revealed common packing mistakes. One in four Brits always forget something, most often phone chargers (30%), sun cream (21%) and swimwear (13%). Moreover, packing stress causes arguments for over one in ten (12%) before the holiday has even started!

There’s an app for that! Understanding these frustrations, Dacia has developed a first-of-its-kind ‘Boot Organiser’ tool within its Dacia AR app. This tool helps Dacia drivers to optimise the way they load their car boot, considering the size and shape of their luggage and even suggesting the best order to pack items.

A spokesperson for Dacia said: “At Dacia, we believe your Bank Holiday should be an enjoyable experience from start to finish. We know that packing the car can often feel like a challenge, which is why we’ve partnered with Vicky Silverthorn to offer tips, as well as developed our own new Boot Organiser tool within the Dacia AR app. Our aim is to take the stress out of the packing process, allowing everyone to focus on the adventure ahead and make the most of the space they’ve got.”

Vicky Silverthorn added: “I’m delighted to be working with Dacia to share my tips for smarter packing. With a little planning and the right techniques, you can maximise your boot space and avoid the frustration of not being able to fit everything in. Whether it’s packing for your next adventure or even fitting in the kitchen sink, hopefully, this will help Brits feel in control of their packing problems.”

The Dacia Boot Organiser tool is available within the ‘Dacia AR’ app which can be downloaded on iOS and Android devices.
