Compact dream car – In 1976, the first Golf GTI turned the sports car world upside down with its dynamic performance and outstanding value for money

Most powerful production Golf GTI – The anniversary model, Golf GTI EDITION 501, with 239 kW (325 PS), is already available to order in some European markets and will be delivered in 2026

A step into the future – In 2026, Volkswagen will transfer the GTI idea into the world of electric mobility with the all-new ID. Polo GTI2

Classic events 2026 – The Golf GTI3 will be celebrated at the season opener at Rétromobile in Paris (28.01.–01.02.) and the Bremen Classic Motorshow (30.01.–02.02.)

Wolfsburg – It is the world’s most successful compact sports car: the Golf GTI. The original in its class. More than 2.5 million units have been produced to date. In 2026, the Golf GTI will turn 50 – and this will be celebrated with a variety of national and international classic events, the exclusive anniversary model Golf GTI EDITION 501, and the world premiere of the first all-electric GTI.

A success story since 1976. When the Golf GTI was launched in 1976, no one could have guessed that the 81 kW (110 PS) Volkswagen, with its red grille surround, black wheel arch extensions and golf ball gear knob, would soon become the world’s most successful compact sports car. Only 5,000 units were planned, but in the first year alone dealers sold 10 times as many vehicles. In total, 461,690 first-generation Golf GTI cars were built.

It was the unusual overall package that struck a chord: a highly precise sports car for lonely Alpine passes and, at the same time, a practical companion for every day of the year, extremely economical and instantly a timeless style icon. The price was also a hit: 13,850 Deutschmarks in Germany. The media spoke of the democratisation of the sports car. And indeed, the performance of the 182 km/h Volkswagen was impressive: with a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 9.0 seconds, the 1976 Golf GTI left behind numerous sports cars and coupés that were easily 10,000 Deutschmarks more expensive.

The DNA for the past 50 years – and for tomorrow. The unique interplay of agile engine, lightweight front-wheel drive, balanced chassis, perfectly fitting sports seats and crisp, no-frills design still characterises the Golf GTI today. It is this synthesis that Volkswagen has continuously refined over 50 years – making the Golf GTI an authentic sports car and the original in its class. The fact is: today, when people say GTI, they mean Volkswagen. The crowning glory of this world-famous product brand in the anniversary year 2026 is the Golf GTI EDITION 50 – the most powerful production Golf GTI to date, with 239 kW (325 PS). The anniversary model is already available to order in some European markets, with the first units to be delivered in 2026. Volkswagen has also proven that the GTI philosophy is successful in other model series, especially with the Polo GTI. In 2026, a new Polo GTI will take off: the ID. Polo GTI. With 166 kW (226 PS), it will transfer the GTI philosophy into the electric drive era for the first time – there could not have been a better debut year for the first electric GTI.

Classic GTI in Paris and Bremen. The first five decades of GTI will be the focus of various major classic events in 2026. The celebrations kick off from 28 January to 1 February in Paris at Rétromobile. The classic car show at the Port de Versailles will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2026, just like the Golf GTI. Almost simultaneously, the first German show for classic vehicles begins in the Hanseatic city of Bremen: the Bremen Classic Motorshow. Here, the Golf GTI will be in the spotlight from 30 January to 2 February. Both shows are therefore not only the opening events for the European classic season 2026, but also for the GTI year 2026.

Chief Brand Officer Christine Wolburg: “We have actively supported female empowerment and equality in sport for years”

Sponsorship to also further increase awareness of the ID. family models

Wolfsburg – Volkswagen is back on the UEFA football pitch. The car manufacturer will be a partner of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025. The UEFA Women’s European Championship will be held in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July. Volkswagen was already involved as a partner for the UEFA at the 2022 Women´s EURO in England 2022.

Christine Wolburg, Chief Brand Officer of the Volkswagen brand: “As a matter of conviction, we have supported both football of women and women in football for many years now. Sponsoring the UEFA Women’s EURO this summer is therefore a further sign of our commitment to visibility, fairness and genuine participation.”

As in the last tournament, Volkswagen is pursuing a second major goal with the partnership in addition to the attitude campaign: “We are also using the stage to present our models from the all-electric ID. family to an international audience”, Wolburg announces.

Volkswagen is a partner not only of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 but also of seven of the 16 participating national teams: in addition to Germany and host Switzerland, these are France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and Italy. In these countries, sponsorship agreements have been signed between the respective Volkswagen importers and the national football associations. Volkswagen will also be organising activities in other football-loving markets before and during the European Championship.

Guy-Laurent Epstein, UEFA Marketing Director, said: “UEFA is delighted to welcome Volkswagen back as an official UEFA Women’s EURO sponsor. Their continued support demonstrates a shared belief in the power and potential of the women’s game. As the tournament kicks off soon across Switzerland, this partnership helps us not only deliver a record-breaking competition but also drive meaningful investment into the growth of women’s football and create more opportunities for women and girls at every level of the sport.”

UEFA Women’s EURO is set to take place across eight host cities in Switzerland and is expected to be the most successful edition to date, with record-breaking attendance, investment and fan engagement.

Alexandra Popp, EURO ambassador for Volkswagen, German national player with 145 caps and Captain of VfL Wolfsburg: “Football of women has taken a fantastic leap forward in recent years: professionalism, quality and attention have developed extremely positively. Volkswagen has supported us from the very beginning – both at club level with VfL Wolfsburg and also at national level in the German Football Association, and in Europe, as now at the UEFA Women’s EURO. This commitment and this recognition are highly appreciated in the football world.”

At the last UEFA Women’s EURO, which had to be postponed from 2021 to 2022 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Volkswagen attracted attention with its #KeinFrauenfußball, or #NotWomensFootball, attitude campaign. With this deliberately provocative slogan, it was pointed out that general language use differs between football and women’s football – as if they were different sports.

The women’s team at VfL Wolfsburg, a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, also benefits from the company’s support: for twelve years now, the female footballers from this German football club have been among the most successful in Europe, winning not only the UEFA Women’s Champions League twice, but also the German championship seven times and the German Cup eleven times.

Milton Keynes – Volkswagen has unveiled a special Harlequin-themed race livery to celebrate 50 years of the Polo. Revealed to the public for the first time at Bicester Motion’s springtime Scramble event, the eye-popping colour scheme was chosen by Volkswagen fans on social media and will now adorn iconic championship-winning Polo rally cars for some thrilling birthday-related activities later this year.

Taking pride of place on Volkswagen’s Bicester show stand, the new ‘birthday suit’ was revealed on a Polo R World Rallycross (WRX) show car – a replica of Johan Kristoffersson’s all-conquering multi-championship winning FIA WRX car.

Four distinct liveries were originally available for Volkswagen fans to choose from as part of a global online poll – all inspired by the popular and quirky Polo Harlequin special edition in the 1990s. The winning paint scheme features a 1980s-style pop-art pattern and the original Harlequin car colours: Chagallblau (Chagall blue, pantone code LD5D), Flashrot (Flash red, LP3G), Ginstergelb (Ginster yellow, LR132) and Pistazie (Pistachio, LD6D).

Four other Polo models were also on display at Bicester, all adding their own splash of colour to the birthday celebrations. An original Polo GLS Mk1 from 1975 in Inari silver represented the original design of the first Polo model. A Cherry red Polo Mk2 garnered a lot of attention, while the current generation Polo Black Edition and sporty Polo GTI in blue and black showcased the evolution of the model over five decades and 20 million sales worldwide.

“The Polo is a model that resonates with so many people for different reasons,” said Mike Orford, Head of PR and Communications at Volkswagen UK. “They might have been fans of the Polo rally cars as they dominated world championships over the years, their parents might have owned a Mk1 or Mk2 Polo, or it might have been the car in which they learned to drive. Whatever the reason, the Polo is a special and enduring model for Volkswagen and that’s why it is great when we get to celebrate these milestone moments in such a colourful way.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing this one-off livery in action later in the year as the birthday celebrations really ramp up.”

Bremen Classic Motorshow 2025: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Oldtimer showcases rare T3 syncro flatbed truck and record-breaking T4 Multivan syncro

It was the first series-production all-wheel-drive van: in 1985, theT3 syncro made its debut as the first ever all-wheel drive Transporter; it was available in almost all body versions

4×4 vans for the modern era: in 2025, the all-wheel drive versions of the Multivan, California, Transporter, Caravelle and ID. Buzz will continue the T3 syncro’s story

31 January to 2 February: the Bremen Classic Motorshow is the first modern classic and vintage vehicle exhibition of the year and the start of the 2025 classic vehicle season

Hanover, Germany, 30 January 2025 – The Bremen Classic Motorshow opens its doors on 31 January, marking the start of the 2025 classic vehicle season. Volkswagen Commercial Oldtimer vehicle division will travel to Bremen on Germany’s still wintry roads with some all-wheel drive treasures that are perfectly suited to the weather: a freshly restored T3 syncro 16” flatbed truck – only 60 units of which were ever built – and a record-breaking T4 Multivan syncro. There’s a good reason for this: Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is celebrating ‘40 years of the all-wheel drive’ in 2025. The motto: “Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” There is no doubt that the T3 and T4 syncro, as well as the later T5 and T6 4MOTION, have made a significant contribution to the fact that the VW van has become an icon for globetrotters, tradespeople and campers who often have to drive their vehicles on unpaved terrain. In Bremen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is now looking back on 40 years of all-wheel drive and, at the same time, looking to the future. This is because the seventh generation of the Bulli – the Multivan, California, Transporter, Caravelle and ID. Buzz – is also available with all-wheel drive.

Off to the Sahara in the T2: The first T3 syncro went into series production in 1985. However, the story of all-wheel-drive adventures with the VW van began much earlier – in the 1970s, with the head of development for the Transporter product line: Gustav Mayer (1925–2014). He loved travelling and challenging himself, a passion that kept leading him back to the Sahara Desert in a T2 time and again. However, the T2 was only available with rear-wheel drive at the time. At some point, though, Gustav Mayer had had enough of shovelling his van out of the sand in the deserts of North Africa, so he and his team simply built an all-wheel drive T2. The tests of the first prototype went well, including a few again in the dunes of the Sahara. In 1978, construction of five T2 test vehicles with a selectable frontwheel drive began. However, the T2 – launched in 1967 – was already approaching the end of its life cycle at that point. That’s why the T3 became the first VW van to be equipped with all-wheel drive.

The T3 syncro made its debut in 1985: From the very beginning, the T3 was not only intended as a commercial vehicle, but also as a vehicle for travelling the world. There was simply no other vehicle offered the same level of spaciousness. The floor structure of the T3, first introduced with rear-wheel drive in 1979, allowed space for a propshaft and a front axle differential right from the outset and thus for all-wheel drive. But it took time to develop it to the desired level of perfection and apparently ever-lasting durability. The waiting finally came to an end in 1985: the first Transporter vehicles and the first Caravelle syncro were launched onto the market. Volkswagen had entered into a cooperation with Steyr-Daimler-Puch for series development and construction of the syncro variants. The company was renowned within the industry as a highly competent specialist for the development and production of all-wheel drive vehicles. This is why final assembly of the T3 syncro took place at the Steyr-Daimler-Puch plant in Graz.

A VW van as an off-road vehicle: In contrast to the T2 test vehicles, the T3 syncro did not have a selectable all-wheel drive, but – much more conveniently – a front axle that was permanently integrated via a propshaft. A viscous clutch was used for integration. This proved to be very robust and delivered perfect performance under almost all conditions. Another advantage of the Visco clutch was the fact that the otherwise standard intermediate differential, which usually compensated for the speed differences between the front and rear axles, could be omitted. This task was now also performed by the silicone oil-filled clutch. A multi-part underbody guard protected the all-wheel-drive technology from damage during off-road adventures. Different springs and harder shock absorbers were also used. As a result, the body of the syncro models was 60 millimetres higher. When it came to choosing a gearbox, the engineers opted for a 4+G gearbox, which had four classic forward gears and a very short off-road gear for driving on rough ground. Differential locks on the front and rear axles as well as a rough terrain package were also available as options. The latter included features such as reinforced drive shafts, a vibration damper in the drivetrain and various body reinforcements. With this equipment, the syncro models impressed with a ground clearance of 215 millimetres at the front, a ramp angle of 22 degrees and a breakover angle of 24 degrees. In terms of drive technology, the VW van had reached the level of an off-road vehicle – but with much more space and comfort on board for life’s great adventures.

T3 with 16-inch wheels as a flatbed truck: From 1987, the T3 syncro was even available with 16-inch wheels and extensive modifications to the chassis and body, larger brakes and a rear axle lock as standard, catering to the most extreme off-road use. The reinforcements increased the off-road payload to one tonne. The ground clearance increased to 246 millimetres (+25 mm). A total of 2,138 of these heavy-duty all-wheel drive vehicles – out of the total 45,478 T3 syncros built – left the Graz production halls up until 1992, becoming companions to adventurers, world travellers, forestry workers and tradespeople. Only around 60 of these Volkswagens at expedition-vehicle standard were built as flatbed truck with a load bed, but the additional costs for the syncro drive and the 16-inch conversion were around 50 percent higher compared with the rear-wheel drive platform body. Today, it is almost impossible to track down such an early all-wheel-drive pickup as a classic vehicle. However, it is still possible to see one of these needles in the haystack of all-wheeldrive VW vans: at the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles stand at Bremen Classic Motorshow.

The T4 syncro arrives in 1993: A genuine world record-breaker will be standing right next to the syncro dropside at the Bremen Classic Motorshow: a T4 Multivan syncro from 1999, in which, 26 years ago, a team from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles completed the legendary Pan-American Highway from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego faster and more easily than any other traveller on four-wheels had ever done before. But before this adventure could begin, the T4 had to be developed. A brief flashback: when the new T4 Volkswagen van made its debut in 1990 – by now in its fourth generation – it was a technical revolution with a new design, new drive, new engines and a new concept. The boxer engine had stepped out of the ring. It was replaced by modern, water-cooled four- and five-cylinder engines, which no longer worked at the rear but at the front, powering the front wheels – offering advantages across the board: the load compartment in the T4 was lower and more accessible. And most importantly, the driver and front passenger seats were now located behind the front axle, which improved passive safety. In 1993, Volkswagen completed the range with the new T4 syncro, whose Visco clutch now transmitted power from the front to the rear.

A record-breaking drive for the Multivan T4 syncro: As already mentioned, the fact that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles once again had one of the world’s best vehicles for adventures in its the range in the form of the all-wheel-drive T4 was demonstrated when the inventor of the VW van took it on a world record-breaking drive from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego in 1999. Two teams set off from Prudhoe Bay in Alaska on 25 September with the aim of reaching Ushuaia in Argentina via the longest north-south connection on the American continent – the Pan-American Highway. Apart from a larger fuel tank, additional headlights on the roof and plexiglass lenses in front of the headlights, the technology of the vehicles was the same as a production vehicle. The challenges faced by both man and machine included the fact that the Pan-American Highway was in far from ideal condition due to an earthquake in Mexico and a great deal of unrest in South America. Nevertheless, the first T4 Multivan syncro – registration number WOB AZ 152 – with professional globetrotters Andreas Renz and Matthias Göttenauer on board reached its destination after exactly 15 days, 14 hours and 6 minutes and 22,880 kilometres, securing its place in the Guinness Book of World Records. The second T4 Multivan syncro also reached its destination a few days later after getting caught in severe storms. The record drive undertaken by the Multivan T4 syncro was the final impetus for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles to design even more powerful all-wheel-drive vehicles. The T4 syncro thus became the initial trigger for the development of the PanAmericana models – first as a special edition model (T4), then as a special series (T5) and since the T6 as an all-terrain equipment version.

The T5 as 4MOTION arrives in 2004: In 2003, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles presented the T5 as a world premiere. More powerful engines and, above all, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) called for a new all-wheel drive system. This was available from 2004 onwards under the new designation 4MOTION. The central element of the 4MOTION system was now an axially compressed multiplate clutch running in an oil bath. The pressure was generated by two pumps. The more pressure that was applied to the plates, the greater the power transmission and thus integration of the rear axle. Thanks to the multiplate clutch’s quick reaction time, it was now possible to integrate the rear axle steplessly only if one of the front wheels started to lose traction. In normal operation, the 4MOTION models available as a Transporter, Caravelle, Multivan and California therefore had front-wheel drive, which helped to save fuel.

4MOTION gets electronic controls: In 2010, an enhanced version of 4MOTION made its debut with a new multiplate clutch and an electronically controlled high-pressure pump, which provided a constant oil pressure of 30 bar in a reservoir. Slip on the front axle was thus no longer needed to persuade the rear wheels to step in. The ESC sensors provided the high-pressure pump with information when the wheels were practically only just starting to show a loss of traction. Within a hundredth of a second, the power was delivered to the wheels that needed it. In addition, the new 4MOTION system was able to cover virtually all driving conditions with confidence. Furthermore, it was able to move forward even when a wheel was hanging in the air – with an optional rear-axle locking differential coming in helpful here. From 2015, the 4MOTION system with the electronically controlled multiplate clutch was adapted for the sixth generation of the product line (T6) and used in the T6.1 from 2019.

Three all-wheel-drive van product lines for the modern age: Due to completely new requirements relating to the variety of drive systems and usage scenarios, the seventh generation of the Bulli is now divided into three product lines: the Multivan including the new California based on it, the all-electric ID. Buzz, including the ID. Buzz Cargo commercial vehicle version, and the new Transporter including the Caravelle designed as a shuttle bus. And Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles naturally also offers various derivatives of all three product lines as all-wheel drive versions: the Multivan and California have been available since autumn 2024 with the first new plug-in hybrid all-wheel drive (eHybrid 4MOTION) from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles; as an innovation, the rear axle is powered purely electrically here. The rear axle of the newly developed Transporter TDI 4MOTION and Caravelle TDI 4MOTION is integrated via an electronically controlled differential. And in the case of the all-wheel drive ID. Buzz Cargo Pro 4MOTION and ID. Buzz GTX models, all four wheels are driven exclusively by electric power. Nothing will therefore stand in the way of a trip in a VW van to the Sahara in 2025. These models also don’t necessarily need roads either…

Classic T1 model to serve thirsty visitors in Hall 5: A trip round the show browsing some deliciously perfect examples of automotive history – from the prospective Bulli to the perfect all-wheel drive model – is thirsty work. That’s why Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Oldtimer division will once again be bringing an important cult vehicle from its large collection to the show on the banks of the River Weser: the ‘Beck’s Bus’. And that’s exactly where you’ll find the famous Bremen beer that shares its name with this T1 bus. The option of an alcohol-free version for motorists goes without saying. For a long time now, the ‘Beck’s Bus’ has been a popular and well known meeting point at trade fairs – like Bremen’s beloved get-together for classic vehicle fans. Simply head to stand D08 in Hall 5. Spread across 424 square metres, the stand not only has classic vehicles from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, but also numerous classic icons from Audi Tradition, Škoda, Autostadt Wolfsburg and Volkswagen Classic. So, one trip to this stand is worth it five times over.

Milton Keynes – The Volkswagen Drive Electric sale provides an exceptional package of offers this autumn for those considering an electric car. They combine zero-per-cent APR1 with money off, a free home charger and access to the UK’s cheapest home electric vehicle (EV) charging rate.

Zero-per-cent APR1
Order a Volkswagen electric car this autumn and get zero-per-cent APR1 with a Solutions Personal Contract Plan (PCP) from Volkswagen Financial Services (subject to terms). It means customers could drive away in a Volkswagen ID.3, for example, for just £299 per month2 with a customer deposit of £5,693.

Money off if you order by 18 November
Anyone ordering a new Volkswagen ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, ID.7 or ID.7 Tourer by 18 November will benefit from £1,000 off the on-the-road price – or £2,500 off an ID.4 from stock. This eye-catching offer is open to cash buyers and those who are using finance to fund purchases. But prospective buyers will need to be quick – this offer ends on Monday 18 November3.

Free Ohme home charger or £500 of charging credit
Volkswagen UK is partnering with Ohme, one of the UK’s most innovative and fastest-growing tech companies, to give customers a free home charger – or £500 worth of charging credit for those who already have a charger at home or for who installation is not viable.

Ohme chargers are loaded with smart technology to help customers manage their charging schedules, monitor progress and keep track of electricity usage and costs. They just need to let their Volkswagen Retailer know, when buying a car, that they would like to take up the charger offer, and everything will be arranged to supply an Ohme charger with standard installation.

See full offer details, terms and conditions at: https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/electric-and-hybrid/driving-electric/finance-and-offers.html#charge-offer

UK’s cheapest home EV charging rate plus up to 10,000 free miles
Volkswagen UK is also partnering with home energy provider OVO to give customers access to the UK’s cheapest home electric vehicle charging rate – just 7p per kWh.

This fantastic rate can be unlocked by adding the free Charge Anytime tariff to any OVO energy plan. There are no peak or off-peak rates with Charge Anytime, so there’s no need to charge overnight to obtain the best rate. Customers pay one price for their household electricity and one price for their EV charging – simply by adding Charge Anytime to an existing OVO energy plan.

But that’s not all: those adding Charge Anytime to an OVO energy plan will also receive credit worth up to 10,000 free miles – and will be given an additional 1,000 free miles every year for up to three years after they start using Charge Anytime.

Standard LED headlights create a focused, state-of-the-art light design for all new Transporters from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles

Milton Keynes, UK (27 June, 2024) – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles is presenting the first specific details of its seventh-generation Transporter1 – while also revealing a glimpse of a particularly charismatic and versatile version: the PanAmericana1. “Right from the outset and across the generations, the Transporter has been a robust and practical vehicle. And it achieves this in its most beautiful form. That’s why it has become an icon. Now, with our seventh Transporter, we have managed to create another vehicle that meets precisely these criteria – a robust vehicle with a highly aesthetic design. It seamlessly follows the classic Bulli DNA, but we have systematically enhanced the design – as is perfectly demonstrated by the new PanAmericana,” says Albert Kirzinger, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Chief Designer. Kirzinger adds: “Even the very first PanAmericana, which was based on the T5, gave you the impression that nothing could come close to it. This charm and sense of cool is also reflected in every detail of the new PanAmericana.”

Stylish utility: “The new Transporter combines a high degree of utility with the distinctively clean and iconic style of Volkswagen Design. It is not just the vehicle’s overall lines, but also its individual elements that have become hallmark features of the product line,” says Albert Kirzinger. These include wheel rims, headlights and tail light clusters. The Chief Designer adds: “Even supposedly small details such as side sill panel moulding or wheel arch extensions are elements where this combination of robustness and aesthetics fuse together to give the Transporter its unique DNA.” The new PanAmericana demonstrates this perfectly with its all-terrain attachments on the sides: They are useful because they protect the body. They are aesthetically pleasing because their design is clean and precise. And they are a visible evolution of the PanAmericana design, as they add further emphasis to the allroad character and robustness of this Bulli built for globetrotters. Albert Kirzinger says: “Robustness – integrated into a crystal-clear design – signifies value to us and is a quintessential feature of the seventh Transporter generation.”

Iconic design: Another example of the striking Transporter and Volkswagen details is the new 19-inch “Indianapolis” alloy wheel.2 The PanAmericana will be launched with this first 19-inch wheel2 as standard, the first in the history of the series. It features a premium design with a diamond-cut rim and black spoked star. According to Kirzinger, “Even if you covered up the VW badge on the hub cap, the Indianapolis wheel would still be recognisable as a Transporter and Volkswagen wheel thanks to its clean, iconic design.”

Face in the crowd: “The headlights and tail light clusters have long been more than just sources of light. Even the first Transporter had round headlights that made it look like the commercial vehicle had eyes, giving the front end a face. The new Transporter also has an unmistakable face – and this is once again thanks to its striking light design,” Albert Kirzinger explains. The PanAmericana will be launched as standard with the top-of-the-line version of the new LED headlights.2 However, the entry-level versions will also have LED headlights2 on board. The PanAmericana’s new LED tail light clusters2 likewise leave you in no doubt that this is a Transporter. The new light design has a further significance: It symbolises that Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has shifted the Transporter into the future of technology. After all, it is not just the lights that are electric; the drive system in Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ new Transporter can also be electrified on request.

Milton Keynes, UK (27 June, 2024) – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has today announced specifications for the new ID. Buzz GTX and ID. Buzz LWB (long wheelbase) variants. Due in retailers and for delivery to customers later in 2024, prices for the LWB version start at £59,545. Full pricing for the GTX will be released in due course.

The high-performance ID. Buzz GTX and even more spacious ID. Buzz LWB are the latest additions to the critically acclaimed ID. Buzz line-up. The GTX will be the most powerful ID. Buzz, while the LWB models provide a longer wheelbase for increased luggage capacity, a standard seven-seat layout and a larger 86kWh battery for even greater range.

The 86kWh ID. Buzz Life LWB 286PS starts at £59,545 ‘on the road’ and features a WLTP combined range of 291 miles. The 86kWh ID. Buzz Style 286PS is priced from £64,345 and has a WLTP combined range of 286 miles. Both LWB models feature the same 286PS single motor as the normal wheelbase versions.

ID. Buzz GTX
Available in the UK with 79kWh standard wheelbase, the ID. Buzz GTX is the high-performance flagship of the range. Powered by two electric motors providing four-wheel drive and a combined output of 340PS, the GTX is capable of 0-62mph in just 6.1 seconds.

The ID. Buzz GTX with normal wheelbase is available with five seats featuring a 40:60 split three-seat bench in the second row, or as a six-seater with two individual seats each in the second and third rows.

Externally, the dynamic and distinctive ID. Buzz GTX is identified by a unique front bumper treatment, plus a gloss black finish for the bespoke honeycomb grille design, the new side air guide elements, the GTX lettering and the exterior door mirror housings.

In addition, the exclusive GTX Black 21” ‘Townsville’ alloy wheel is standard equipment for the ID. Buzz GTX. The range of GTX wheel rims is also supplemented by an additional new 21-inch alloy wheel. A new Cherry Red solid paint finish is exclusive to ID. Buzz GTX, which can be specified with Mono Silver metallic as a two-tone paint finish.

Inside, dark tones underline the sporty character of the most powerful ID. Buzz, which is equipped with a black headliner. In addition, the seats feature a unique GTX design that’s enhanced by black ArtVelours Eco microfleece with a new diamond pattern as well as red contrasting seams and red piping. Red cross-stitching is used on the multifunction steering wheel, which is refined by a flash of red trim on its centre and chrome GTX lettering.

ID. Buzz LWB
At almost five metres long and with seating for up to seven, ID. Buzz LWB is perfectly prepared for every adventure. Not only does the increased length create even more space for luggage, it allows for the installation of a bigger 86kWh battery for an even greater range. As with the normal wheelbase ID. Buzz, a seven-seat layout delivers exceptional family-friendly flexibility. Five- and six-seat configurations are available as an option, while on seven-seat models the third row can be removed completely.

ID. Buzz LWB measures 4,962 mm in length, compared to 4,712 mm for the normal wheelbase version. The increased length has been achieved by stretching the wheelbase from 2,989 to 3,239 mm. This additional 250 mm has been added to the wheelbase and the sliding rear doors, which have been widened by 192 mm for enhanced access. Both models are 1,985 mm wide without exterior mirrors, and are up to 1,927 mm high, depending on the equipment.

In the five-seater configuration, ID. Buzz LWB offers luggage compartment volume of 1,340 litres, compared to 1,121 litres in the normal wheelbase model. With the second and third row seats folded, ID. Buzz LWB provides a cavernous 2,469 litres of carrying capacity, perfect for carrying paragliders, bikes and surfboards. Even with seven people on board, the ID. Buzz LWB has a generous 306 litres of space behind the third seat row.
